Christmas with a new baby is such a magical time. Creating new family traditions really brings the season to life and gives it new meaning. So, what are our top tips for creating a magical first Christmas with a new baby?
Top tips to create a magical first Christmas with a new baby:
Firstly, don’t expect too much from baby! If they are tiny, they will (hopefully) sleep through some of the day to give you some well-earned rest. They will probably enjoy looking at the Christmas tree lights and maybe playing with wrapping paper but they won’t get all that excited about the idea of Christmas just yet. That doesn’t mean that you can’t have lots of fun planning some new family traditions 😊
First stop is a Christmas stocking. Nothing is more exciting than hanging a stocking on Christmas Eve ready for Santa’s visit and at Babyblooms we have some personalised luxury velvet stockings that will look fabulous year after year. Of course, Santa works hard delivering gifts to all the children of the world and he deserves a little treat when he visits your house. Our personalised Christmas Eve plate even has space for a carrot for the reindeer and is sure to become a special part of Christmas Eve night. A personalised Christmas Eve box is a lovely way to start the magic of Christmas Eve and a personalised Christmas Eve story is a lovely way to wind down on Christmas Eve night.
So, once you have got Christmas Eve sorted you can think about the tree. It is such a lovely idea to put a keepsake “Baby’s First Christmas” bauble on the tree and Babyblooms have some beautifully illustrated, personalised baubles that will become a treasured keepsake for years to come. Baby will also need an outfit for Christmas Day and we have some cute Christmas bib and t-shirt combos that can also be personalised.
Finally, Christmas can be a good time to stock up on some essentials. A new baby isn’t going to mind what you buy them so why not take the opportunity to stock up on some essentials? A super soft blanket or cosy bathrobe and hooded towel will be used all year round and makes a practical and thoughtful gift for baby’s first Christmas.
The most popular baby names for 2018 - revealed!
The most popular baby names from 2018 have finally been officially revealed by the Office of National Statistics. Olivia and Oliver are up there again in the number one spot for both boys and girls. See the top five names for boys and girls below:
Take a look at the Office of National Statistics website to see how popular your favourite baby names are.
How have the top baby names changed over the years?
Oliver has been the most popular name for six years now and Olivia has had the top slot for three. The top ten for both boys and girls remained fairly stable over the last few years. There was only one change this year for the boys with Arthur replacing Jacob and two changes for the girls, with Sophia and Grace replacing Poppy and Lily.
We seem to be getting more adventurous in our choice of names for new babies.
Less than half (45%) of babies born in the UK in 2018 were given names from the list of the top 100 most popular baby names, whereas in 1996 two thirds (67%) were given names within the top 100. This means we are becoming more diverse in our choice of names, moving from the traditional to a more individual choice. Younger mums were even more likely to chose less traditional names for their new babies, with mums under the age of 25 being more likely to pick names such as Hunter, Logan and Harper. These younger mums are also more likely to pick abbreviated versions of names and names that include a hyphen. Mums over the age of 35 are more likely to pick the full version of more traditional names such as Alexander and William and no hyphenated names appeared in the top 200 for this older group of mums.
What influences our choice of names for new babies?
There are many factors that can influence our choice of names. Often we will name our babies after a family member but we can also be influenced by fashion and celebrity culture. Names that were popular mid century such as Keith, Roger and Barry or Jean, Susan and Janet have fallen out of favour today and we seem to prefer turn of the century names such as Oliver, Jack, Ivy and Florence. Celebrities can also have an impact on the popularity of a name, David and Victoria Beckham's little girl Harper has inspired lots of other little Harpers and the name has risen 831 places to reach 27th place in 2018. The name Alexa has become significantly less popular, halving in popularity from 2017 - 2018. It's a tricky name to use now that calling for your child will activate your Amazon device!
Why is a personalised hooded towel a perfect new baby gift?
There is so much choice when it comes to buying a gift for a new baby it can be hard to know where to start. Tiny clothes look really cute but babies grow so quickly that they don't always get the wear they deserve. If you are looking for a thoughtful, practical gift for a new baby then a personalised hooded towel is a great option.
Hooded towels are so useful for little ones. Not only do they make bath time warm and snuggly, they are ideal for putting on straight after swimming when baby can get chilly. A hooded towel is also perfect for playing on the beach or in the paddling pool. At Babyblooms our towels are made from the softest toweling material. The hood keeps little heads warm and the towels are big enough to wrap round and round for lots of cosy cuddles. Our hooded towels also loved by wiggly toddlers, who can wrap themselves up and stay warm after the bath or swimming pool.
So, a hooded towel is an essential item for a new mum and will certainly get lots of use - but how do you make it a special enough to give as a gift? Here at Babyblooms we have the answer! We would be delighted to personalise your hooded towel for you with the new baby's name using our luxurious embroidery process. This makes the towel very special for the new mum and creates a thoughtful and unique gift. It also makes sure that baby uses his or her own towel which is recommended by health professionals for hygiene reasons. They have their own hooded towel for home or out and about at a paddling pool or swimming pool so they will never get mixed up with anyone else's or lost for any reason.
We also pride ourselves on our packaging and so we will make sure that your gift is beautifully gift wrapped in one of our exclusive illustrated gift boxes with a gift card bearing your message. And as we can embroider your towel ourselves at Babyblooms HQ we can send your gift out for next day delivery.
We also have some gorgeous gift hampers that include our personalised hooded towels. Take a look at our Cosy Cuddles Gift Set or our Personalised Three Little Bunny Luxury New Baby Hamper for some more gorgeous new baby gift ideas.

We here at Babyblooms have put together some gorgeous gifts to celebrate with new mums at this time of year. Our beautiful luxury spring bouquet or our Easter hand-tied bouquet are a perfect way to send your love to those new spring babies and their mums and dads. Our super cute cuddly bunnies make lovely gifts for a new baby and can be personalised to make the gift really special. We also have some gorgeous new baby hampers featuring our bunnies that make a perfect gifts to welcome a new baby at Easter time, such as our beautiful, new Little Love hampers.
There are lots of lovely ways to mark Easter time and the coming of spring with a new baby, many of which celebrate birth and new beginnings. Eggs have been used for centuries at this time of year to symbolise new life, just as bunnies have been symbols of fertility. When baby is very little then a chocolate Easter egg is just the thing for mum to enjoy with her feet up, but as baby gets bigger, an Easter egg hunt is lots of fun for all the family. If your little one is too young for lots of chocolate then you could decorate some real eggs (boiled is best!) or some polystyrene eggs (available in most craft shops or supermarkets). Have fun decorating the eggs with paint and glitter, hide the eggs in the house, garden or park, then get the kids to run round collecting as many as they can find, producing a prize for everyone at the end.
There are lots of fabulous Easter crafts to keep older children occupied, particularly important if mum is busy with a new baby. Easter bonnets, nests for chocolate eggs, Easter egg baskets and lots more, with kits widely available if you, like me, sometimes lack inspiration! Also, if weather permits, nothing beats pulling on your wellies and venturing outside for some spring sunshine, the older kids will love letting off steam and new babies sleep much better after a dose of fresh air.
Easter is also a time for families to get together and it can be a lovely idea to buy an Easter gift for a new baby. If baby is too little for an Easter egg then a cuddly toy makes a thoughtful Easter gift. Our bunnies make gorgeous presents for baby's first Easter or our beautifully embroidered, personalised bunny tops are perfect for babies and older children.
Here's hoping from some spring sunshine in the next few weeks and we hope you all have a great Easter!

There is huge pressure to host elaborate baby showers and if you are researching this subject or planning a party you will doubtless have encountered plenty of tips and advice that can sometimes include plenty of tat, gimmicks and cringe inducing games, all available online and sometimes at great cost!
So to keep things simple and as a gift company devoted to mums and little ones we thought we would develop our own simple tips on how to host a baby shower the mum to be will LOVE.
First things first, as a host its important to understand the key guest, the MUM TO BE.As a pregnant woman you are typically and probably several if not all of the following:
- An Adult
- Tired and emotional
- Anxious or nervous about the birth and the future
- Up to your ears 'nesting' in decorating and DIY
- On a budget and saving money
- Missing out on socialising and workplace banter
We don't mean to be negative, pregnancy is a truly special time its just important to understand how your mum to be is TRULY feeling. Which is why we think it is important to note that baby showers don't have to be the forced, organised 'fun' promised by the many games and gimmicks associated with baby showers. Instead Baby Showers can be a select gatherings which celebrate friendship and affirm support and love for the expectant mum.
So onto our top four baby shower party ideas -
The Spa Baby Shower:
On a straw poll in the bb offices there was not one of us who didn't dream of having more spa days. Becoming a mum means that 'me time' become less frequent which is why a visit to a day spa where 'mum' and friends can indulge in some pampering and an uninterrupted day of each others company is utter bliss. The only accessories required are towelling robes, slippers (hopefully provided for) and a selection of scrumptious baby shower gifts all to be enjoyed whilst lounging around the pool.
The Girls Night In Baby Shower:
Girls nights in become quickly replaced by cuddles with new babies so its a perfect way to relax and have fun with close friends and family before the big day. Plenty of home treatments and pampering, followed by a chic flick and takeaway. Light some of our relaxing scented candles or use scented reed diffusers to set the scene and add that unique spa feel to the occasion. Leg and foot massage is always a favourite with mums to be and who can resist having their nails done? Give mum a thorough top to toe pampering! After all, she is growing a wonderful new baby and that needs alot of resting time. Gift giving finishes the night off perfectly.
High Tea Baby Shower:
A proper old fashioned tea-party - fish out your best china tea set, (or else get to a charity shop and buy some), make dainty cucumber sandwiches and home baked cakes. This is a great idea if you want to include several generations of family as well as friends. If you want an 'activity', ask family guests to bring their family albums and create a scrap book or illustrated family tree, great fun ( we promise!!) and a keepsake to treasure. A nappy cake makes the perfect baby shower centrepiece on such an occasion, as far from being a gimmick it follows the theme perfectly. Babyblooms Nappy Cakes only include biodegradable nappies and practical essential items of baby clothing - oh, and a few silk flowers for mum to keep! Continuing the cupcake theme, perfect gifts include pyjama cupcakes gift sets and organic cotton sock cupcakes.
The Recycle Baby Shower:
This is a fabulous idea, especially if you're one of the last in your friendship group to have a baby. Essentially, it is where other mums can gift garments that they have treasured or enjoyed seeing their own children wear, or nursery items that they have found particularly useful. Older relatives and friends or non mums can be encouraged to bring handmade or knitted items - Essentially anything that has inbuilt love and sentiment.
Hosting a baby shower is exciting but can be daunting depending on your experience of the baby world. Our overall guide is to keep it full of pamper and less of tat with a sprinkling of delightful gifts.
Baby showers present a valuable opportunity for family and friends to show their love and support for the mum to be and most importantly it is an opportunity for her to enjoy some down time and fun with her nearest and dearest before the big B Day.
We've been busy butterflies these past few months but we're very proud to share our brand new site as well as a sprinkling of new products to take you through Christmas and into the New Year.
The original and still the best, you'll find all our beautifully crafted baby clothes bouquets, hand crafted by us, as well as our cupcake pyjama sets, stunning nappy cakes and gift basket range. We've also developed a fabulous range of Christmas gifts, from charming china to embroidered PJs, with a personalised Christmas bauble in between, we've got everything to make a baby's first Christmas unforgettable.
And because we're all about unique and adorable gifts that will surprise and delight from the moment they arrive, we've created brand new packaging, inspired by our hometown here in the Cotswolds and designed by the super talented Amanda Bradley meaning you don't have to worry about gift wrapping.
We hope you love it as much as we do!
Please explore and Happy Holidays from all of us at Babyblooms.
The contents of the bouquet will vary according to the size of the arrangement ( please see our bouquet page for full contents details)
Unwrapping your baby clothes bouquet
To remove the garments, one at a time, hold the head of each garment flower just above the green tape and pull firmly and evenly away from the bouquet.
If the wire ‘stem’ comes out with the garment it should be discarded. However, it can
remain within the bouquet and will become obscured by the silk flowers.
Once all garments are removed, cup both hands around the bouquet wrap and squeeze tightly together. This will close the spaces left by the garments and leave an even arrangement of silk flowers to keep end enjoy!
Due to the presentation, garments will be, mis-shapen when first unwrapped from the baby clothes bouquet.
Please machine wash all of the baby clothes at 40 degrees and tumble dry on a warm setting for the garments to regain shape.
Babyblooms flowers are not toys, they contain florist wire and wrappings.
Not suitable for children under 36 months. Adult supervision required when unwrapping.
Baby clothes bouquets are #uniquebabygifts, view the babyblooms range: https://www.babyblooms.co.uk/collections/baby-clothes-bouquets

Paddington, the new comedy film suitable for the whole family to watch is due for release on 28th November 2014. Filming is already underway at the famous Elstree Studios just north of London, and it has been confirmed that the voice for the much loved bear is to be that of Colin Firth.
This new animation based on the original Paddington stories by Michael Bond, boasts an impressive line up of famous names: Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent and Nicole Kidman to name just a few!!
According to the Telegraph: In a sign that the film might be quirkier than the average children's offering, it will be directed by Paul King, whose previous credits include the anarchic television series The Mighty Boosh and Come Fly With Me, the airport comedy starring David Walliams and Matt Lucas....https://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/film/film-news/9257760/Paddington-Bear-The-Movie-on-its-way.html
In this much anticipated film, Paddington is a computer generated bear starring in a mixture of computer generated visuals and live action. David Heyman who produced the Harry Potter franchise is the brains behind this exciting project which has already been years in the planning.
As confirmed Paddington fans, the team at Babyblooms have made it a priority to track down the most adorable plush Paddington soft-toys available to add to our gift range. We are delighted and thrilled to announce the arrival at Babyblooms HQ of the Classic Paddington Bear with Boots (22cm) and My First Paddington Bear.
